How Essential Oils Have Changed my Life
I have been using essential oils for many years, but it was not until I was introduced to doTERRA that my love affair really began. I have suffered with my periods since I was 15 and nothing I did helped with the pain. My only option was hard core pain relief from about the age of fifteen.
After only three months of using doTERRA oils the excruciating pain I had suffered my whole life reduced so much so that I did not need pain relief (I have not taken any for four years). I now apply oils to my tummy and pop a hot water bottle on to drive them in deeper and I have normal periods now.
Essential oils come from plants they are what the plant uses to protect itself from sun damage, repel insects, protect during temperature extremes, resist microbial attack. They are also what the plant uses to attract pollinators (think aphrodisiac & fertility!) They are powerful plant medicine are to be used with care and respect, you need to do research on the oil you are using as the are very potent and often only one drop is all that is needed.
Essential oils are NOT new they have been around since the beginning of civilization. Egyptian papyri and Chinese manuscripts describe the medicinal use of aromatics for thousands of years. Similarly the Greeks attributed the invention of perfumes to the gods and believed all aromatic plants to be of divine origin.
When we smell an essential oil they activate the olfactory bulb and effect the limbic system of the brain. Within the limbic system is the amygdala, this plays key role in storing and releasing emotional trauma. Certain oils such as Frankincense and Sandlewood are known to cross the blood brain barrier and can directly interact with brain cells.
There are so many ways you can use essential oils the first is aromatic use, which most of us know this is where we smell them. This you can smell from the bottle, or pop a drop in your hands and inhale alternatively you can pop them into a cold water diffuser and inhale that way to clean the air (naturally!) and support the respiratory system.
You can use them topically, blend with a carrier oil and use on the skin, I love to blend geranium, lavender and ylang ylang and use in my body oil after my shower. We can also apply them the feet where the pores are larger and there are no sebaceous glands so they are very readily absorbed. The final way we can use them (and not all of them) is internally, personally I like a couple of drops of doterra lemon in my water (internal use is always personal choice and do your research on the brand first)
Essential oils are NOT all created equally and the industry is largely unregulated. I only use doTERRA therapeutic grade oils. I know and trust this brand and the science & investment in testing to ensure purity is second to none.
Another key element of doTERRA is their co impact sourcing initiatives which seek to empower the farmers and growers from seed up. I know that my bottle of oil is not only helping me so much physically and emotionally, it is also helping support communities all over the world, this to me is key its the heart to doterra.
